Sedation Dentistry

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation has long been used in the dental field to help keep patients calm and comfortable. We understand that visiting the dentist isn’t always a fun experience and that some people have anxiety related to their treatment. For these reasons, we offer several different types of sedatives to help make your experience with us more relaxed. Sedation is ideal for patients of all ages and varying needs.

What is Oral Sedation?

Oral sedation involves taking a small pill prior to your dental procedure. The pill is designed to relax and calm you down enough for the work to be done. This sedative option is ideal for individuals who are typically nervous when coming in for different treatments. We will instruct you on when and how to take the pill in order for it to work properly.

Why Would Oral Sedation Be Needed?

There are several reasons for why you might benefit from oral sedation. First, we might recommend this option if you tend to be nervous and scared when coming into the office to have work done. You might benefit from oral sedation if you have trouble sitting still for your appointment or would like to stay calm and relaxed at all times while in the chair. This type of sedative option is quick, easy and provides you with the calming effects you want.

Who is a Candidate for Oral Sedation?

Prior to offering any type of sedation, we will carefully review all of your health and medical history. We will then recommend the sedative that is right for you and your needs. Most patients coming into our office can benefit from oral sedation, and we'll discuss how it should be taken in order for it to work properly. Oral sedation is best suited to adult patients, and we have other options for pediatric patients coming into our office.

What Happens During Oral Sedation?

The oral sedation process begins by offering you a small and easy-to-swallow pill. You will take this pill before the start of your appointment. You may need someone to drive you both to and from the office after taking the pill. The medication is designed to relax you and calm you down enough for the work to be done. You can take this medication before any of your future appointments. Many have found that oral sedation helps to make the dental experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

If you think you might benefit from oral sedation, call our office today and our friendly staff members will be more than happy to answer all of your questions.

Why Might You Benefit From Sedation Dentistry?

There are a few reasons for needing sedation dentistry. You might have severe anxiety attacks or suffer from panic attacks when coming into the office. Likewise, you might have issues sitting still for treatment. Regardless of your current problem, sedation can help to improve your experience with us in the office.

Who Would Benefit From Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation is customized to meet the needs of each of our patients. For this reason, it is safe for the majority of our patients coming into the office. Even children can benefit from sedation, as it helps to relax them during otherwise scary appointments. We will go over all health and medical history before offering any sedation to you or a family member.

What Happens During Sedation Dentistry?

The first step is to consult with you and determine what type of sedative is right for your needs. We will then work on providing you with the treatment that is right for you. Nitrous oxide is a popular option that involves breathing in a sweet-smelling gas that puts you into a deeply relaxed state. Oral sedation is ideal for patients who want to simply take a pill prior to their appointment that works to calm them down. Deeper sedation, known as IV sedation, is best for our patients who are undergoing oral surgery. IV sedation is safe, effective and can help to put you into a sleep-like state while in the office.

Meet The Doctors

Dr. Travis Campbell

I was born a Texan and love it! I decided to become a dentist at the age of 3, always my goal, and still my passion.

I graduated from Baylor College of Dentistry here in the Dallas area. Before graduating, I built a vision and business plan for 380 Family Dentistry.

Prosper was still early in its growth phase, and at the time there were cows living across highway 380 from our first office! As Prosper has flourished, grown and gained a great reputation, so have we. At 380 Family Dentistry, we have patients referred not only from Frisco and McKinney, but from surrounding cities all over Collin County!

Meet The Doctors

Dr. Maryam Fazal

Hi, I’m Dr. Maryam Fazal, and I’m excited to be part of the 380 Family Dentistry Team!

I’m definitely a Texan, raised for the most part in the Dallas area. I earned my DDS degree from the University of Pittsburg, then returned to Texas to complete a hospital-based residency at UT Health Science Center in Houston and begin practicing dentistry back in my hometown! I’ve worked at several dental practices in the greater Dallas area over the past 5 years, providing me the opportunity to treat all age groups and types of dental situations. I’m happy to be near family and enjoying life with my husband and new baby daughter, Zara.

Above all, I’ve learned that what’s most important to me is to make you, the patient, feel welcome and not afraid of being in the dental chair. Coming to a dental office can be daunting for some, and I’m proud of anyone who can overcome their fear and take the positive steps to receive oral care. I promise that I will be here to guide you through every step of the process, answering all questions you may have along the way.

I am proud to be part of a family-oriented practice like 380 Family Dentistry and I can’t wait to get to know you!
