What is a Tooth Extraction?
An extraction involves completely removing a tooth from the mouth. It is typically done when no other treatments are available to save a tooth. Our goal is to provide you or your loved one with an extraction that is done quickly and comfortably. We work directly with you to ensure that an extraction is the best choice for your smile and your future needs.
Why is a Tooth Extraction needed?
Extractions are often done for two main reasons. The first is because other treatments have failed or aren’t sufficient enough to save a damaged tooth. Another reason for needing an extraction involves a tooth that could become a problem in the future, like a stubborn baby tooth or an impacted wisdom tooth. We work with you to ensure that there is no other treatment available to help save the tooth in question.
Who is a good candidate for a Tooth Extraction?
With the help of an examination, we can determine if an extraction is needed. Extractions can be done on both adult and pediatric patients on an as needed basis. Once extracted, we will help to provide you with options for replacing the tooth, if necessary. The extraction process is easy and quick, and it is highly beneficial to your overall oral health.
What happens during the Tooth Extraction procedure?
We begin by administering a localized anesthetic to numb the area. We then loosen and remove the tooth using special tools and dental instruments. Sutures may be needed to close the gums, but this isn’t always a necessity. We then provide you with important aftercare instructions to ensure that the area is able to heal properly. The extraction process is very simple, and most patients find that it takes longer for the area to become numb than it does for the tooth to be removed. We can perform multiple extractions during the same appointment as needed.
