Dental Crowns (Ceramic / Porcelain / Same Day CEREC)

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown can help to cover a tooth that is damaged or compromised. Crowns are incredibly common restorations that can be placed over virtually any tooth within the mouth. We offer ceramic, porcelain and even same-day CEREC crowns to suit your own personal needs. Crowns can last for many years or even decades before replacement is necessary.

Why are Dental Crowns needed?

When a tooth breaks, cracks or fractures, we often recommend placing a crown over it. Not only does this help to restore the original look of the tooth, but it prevents more damage from occurring over time. Likewise, a tooth that has a large area of decay or has a big filling in it may need to eventually be crowned. Crowns can be thought of as both cosmetic and restorative in nature.

Who is a candidate for Dental Crowns?

We can conduct an exam to determine if you may need a dental crown. It’s not uncommon for patients to need at least one crown at some point in their lives. You may even have an older crown that needs to be replaced because it’s showing signs of wear. Most patients who need a crown can safely have the procedure done in our office.

What happens during the procedure for a Dental Crown?

We use a local anesthetic to numb the area thoroughly. Our doctor then files down the compromised tooth, removing any decay or old filling material as needed. Once the tooth is filed down, impressions are taken to make the actual crown. You’ll then come in for a second appointment to have the crown placed. For our same-day CEREC crowns, we take digital impressions in our office and use these to make a permanent crown for you while you wait. This prevents the need for a second appointment and allows you to return home with a brand new smile in just one convenient visit.
